I-1. Inherited characteristic of tree and wood quality
Basic information profitable for the forest management, forest tree breeding, and wood utilization is offered by investigating the inherited characteristic that the tree originally possesses by means of the gene analysis technology, and clarifying those inherited characteristics and relativities with various wood qualities.
I-2 Changing of Wood qualities based on Tissue and Original Physical Properties
Some objectives of this subject are to optimize seasoning method by solving the movement of moisture and heat in wood, to develop the method for giving various functions to wood and to decrease the amount of glue extremely for wood-based materials, based on tissue and physical properties of wood.
I-3. The elucidation of the problem in structure use of the softwood timber
The wood properties such as the relations between containing water and the strength decline, such as the relations between the deterioration by high-temperature kiln-drying and the strength decline, and such as the relations between the bio-deterioration and the strength decline cause various problems, when a hardwood including sugi (Criptmeria japonica D. Don.) is used as structural members. In this subject, these phenomena are studied, and the establishment of the theory is tried.
II-1. Production of useful materials from forest resources
We are making a search for useful materials, e.g. bioactive substances or biofuels, from forest and agricultural resources produced in Akita Prefectural area. The properties of the materials will be elucidated in order to establish chemical or biological technologies of the production and to expand utilization of the resources.
II-3 Development of wood-based material with high-performance or high-reliability
This theme has aimed to develop a new functional materials to utilize some advanced original functions of wood and bio-resource at the same time to reduce some negative original functions. Now we try to develop the new functional material with using a fiber arrangement of wood veneer.
III-1. Creation of environment-conscious industry and society with forest material
Analyzing, evaluating and making policies of consumption, production and supply-demand matters of regional wood materials and constructions from viewpoint of sustainability.
III-2. Planning of good residential environment with regional resources and characteristics
Support of town, street and house making with residents-industry-government-academia network for safety, amenity, environmental symbiosis using wood-based materials.
